A black belt is the only acceptable color. There are several varieties of belts and are available at either Gerry Davis or Honigs. A 1.75" wide belt is recommended for plate pants, while the 1.50" wide belt could be worn on the bases. High gloss or patent leather belts are acceptable.
Black socks are the only acceptable color to be worn. Black socks are available at most any kind of store, while Gerry Davis offers styles that are made especially for the umpire.
Base and plate shoes may be purchased through various suppliers. Umpire shoes should be predominantly black but may have white on them. Base Shoes: Black with a minimal amount of white trim. Tennis shoes and baseball cleats are not acceptable. Having some form of "studs" on the bottom of the shoe is recommended but not essential.
Plate Shoes: Black with a minimal amount of white trim. For your own well being they should have at least a metatarsal plate and steel toe. Plate shoes are a big expense, but something that is absolutely essential in umpiring.
Solid Navy ball bags shall be worn with navy, powder blue, and red uniform shirts.
Black or Grey ball bags are optional and shall only be worn with black or creme uniform shirts.

Plate coats are also accepted wear by the Association. Between the Lines offers the Fechheimer Plate coat (Style: JP333L1). Honig's provides a plate coat (Style: B3S). Gerry Davis offers the Fechheimer Plate coat (Style: JK2546). Gerry Davis offers a custom plate (Style: JK1246). No patches or numbers are to be worn on your plate coat.
Underneath your Jacket: You DO NOT wear your uniform shirt underneath your jacket or plate coat. The piece of clothing directly under your jacket should be red or navy and should match your partner. Turtlenecks or Mock Turtleneck are recommended, while t-shirts may also be worn when the temperature is not as cold. Contact Mark Halstead to order blank Mock Turtlenecks or Mocks with the official ODUA embroidery on them.
Cold Weather Wear: Early in the year when the weather is cold, the best way to stay warm is to layer your clothing. Long underwear under your pants, additional socks (as long as the outside sock is black) and layers of shirts are all helpful. Remember, the piece of clothing directly under your jacket should be either red or navy and match your partner. Gloves can also be worn, but must be solid black in color.
